Metalor officially confirms its “Latenor” building project
Neuchâtel (Switzerland), 18 June 2014.
The Metalor Group, world leader in precious metal refining, based in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) officially confirms its building project called Latenor (a contraction of “La Tène” and Metalor), which will involve a 40% increase in the surface area of its production site at Marin-Epagnier (in the La Tène municipality), 8 km from Neuchâtel.
Built in 1986, the Metalor site at Marin-Epagnier currently hosts two of the Group’s three business units:
- Metalor Refining (responsible for the management and refining of precious metals) and
- Metalor Advanced Coatings (specialising in surface treatments, manufacture of powders, flakes and chemical products from precious metals, and plating equipment).
The purpose of this new construction is to significantly increase the site’s overall production capacity and to host the Group’s third business unit, Metalor Electrotechnics (world leader in the manufacture of electrical contacts based on precious metal alloys), along with the laboratories and administrative services for the Group’s activities in Switzerland, which are currently based in Neuchâtel.
Through this project, which is strategic for Metalor and represents an investment of CHF 24 mllion, the site’s surface area will be increased from its current 15,000 sq. m to 21,000 sq. m, with 260 staff (compared with 178 today). Latenor will thus become the Group's largest production site.
Performance of this project, which is to meet the strictest requirements in terms of innovation, health & safety and environmental protection, has been entrusted to Implenia Suisse SA in Marin-Epagnier.
According to Hubert Angleys, Chief Executive Officer of Metalor Group: “Just like the gold it processes, this Marin site has a rich history, and its extension reflects the extraordinary success of a small business started in Le Locle over 162 years ago, which initially employed 5 people and specialized in gold smelting and watch-case manufacture. The long-term know-how and Made-in-Switzerland quality that characterize our products have made Metalor Group a world leader in the management and transformation of precious metals”.
Antoine de Montmollin, Metalor Site Manager in Marin-Epagnier states: “As a pearl of Swiss industry, Metalor is proud to contribute to the development of Neuchâtel Canton and the expansion of industry in this region. The Latenor project testifies to the Group's commitment to pursue its development in Switzerland. It also demonstrates Metalor’s attachment to this canton and its desire to enhance its presence here”.
It is planned that this strategic consolidation of Metalor’s industrial activities in Switzerland become operational in early 2016.
